Effective stocktaking in the warehouse

In the logistics industry, the principle of "time is money" applies. The more time warehouse workers have to spend at work to complete all the tasks entrusted to them, the higher the cost borne by the company. Therefore, effective warehouse management should assume the appropriate organization of the warehouse - both spatial and temporal. All warehouse processes should be carried out as quickly as possible and with a minimum amount of work. To achieve this, an appropriate WMS system that will help to optimize key activities taking place in the entire warehouse, should be chosen.
One of the key issues when it comes to running an efficient warehouse management is stocktaking, i.e. a group of coordinated accounting activities aimed at determining the actual quantity and value of stocks in the warehouse on a given day. The key element of the inventory is a detailed report showing possible differences between the state found during the inventory and the state resulting from the accounting records or other documentation.
Manual Inventory
Stocktaking can be carried out without the support of modern IT solutions. However, you should be aware that manual inventory settlement is a completely ineffective process, with a high risk of making many mistakes - employees must, inter alia, walk from rack to rack, read and write commodity indexes and spend a lot of time on tedious counting. Each hour of additional work of the team, each mistake and each non-trading day is an additional cost for the company.
Inventory without downtime
In order to improve the course of the inventory, reduce its cost and minimize the risk of making a mistake, it is worth implementing a modern WMS class system. With the support of the PINQUARK system, the inventory can be carried out on an ongoing basis (continuous inventory) while the warehouse is in operation. Due to the innovative functionalities of this solution, the process does not have to be associated with the necessity to suspend the operation of the facility or block storage areas and goods intended for sale. Thanks to this, all stored items can be taken from the shelves without having to wait for the end of the process - the inventory can run in the background of other processes that are necessary to maintain the continuity of the warehouse operation.
More than a standard
PINQUARK enables making a complete (in the entire facility) or partial inventory. This means that the user can carry out a quick inventory of stocks according to various criteria, e.g. the batch number, expiry date, article type or product group. The big advantage of the system is also the possibility of stocktaking of logical (virtual) warehouses.
Hardware solutions
To handle the inventory in the WMS system, it is necessary to use the barcode or RFID coding technology as well as warehouse terminals. PINQUARK makes it possible to replace expensive scanners with mobile devices with Internet access and the PINQUARK application installed. Thanks to this solution, the inventory is fast and efficient and is associated with a minimum risk of making a mistake - the task of employees is to act in accordance with the guidelines generated by the system.
When choosing a WMS system, it is worth paying attention to its functionalities ensuring effective management of goods, technical solutions and the company's experience in the field of the latest technologies.
